1. Don't Overload the Machine
Overloading is the #1 cause of premature washer failure. It strains the motor, bearings, and suspension system. Fill the drum no more than 3/4 full and never pack clothes in tightly.
2. Use the Right Amount of Detergent
Using too much detergent — especially in high-efficiency (HE) machines — causes excess suds that can damage the drum bearings and leave residue on clothes. Always use HE detergent in HE machines and follow the dosage instructions.
3. Clean the Drum Monthly
Run a monthly cleaning cycle with a washing machine cleaner tablet or a cup of white vinegar and baking soda. This removes mold, mildew, and detergent buildup that can cause odors and mechanical issues.
4. Leave the Door Open After Each Wash
Front-load washers are especially prone to mold and mildew growth in the door gasket. After each wash, leave the door open for at least an hour to allow moisture to evaporate.
5. Inspect and Clean the Filter
Most front-load washers have a drain pump filter that catches lint, coins, and debris. Check and clean it every 1–3 months to prevent drainage problems.
6. Check Hoses Regularly
Inspect the inlet hoses for cracks, bulges, or leaks every year. Replace rubber hoses every 5 years — or switch to braided stainless steel hoses for greater durability and peace of mind.
7. Level the Machine
An unleveled washing machine vibrates excessively, which wears out the drum bearings and suspension much faster. Use a level and adjust the feet until the machine sits perfectly flat.
8. Don't Ignore Small Problems
